Southern Ontario Landscape Paintings
Growing up in the KW area our family often did day trips to various parks and trails in and around Kitchener. These were my first experiences connecting with nature. We often lived in new suburbs which afforded us kids many opportunities to explore nearby creeks and forests often on our bikes.
Today, I continue to explore Southern Ontario from Tobermory to London, from Niagara to Barrie. I'm known to drive 3 or more hours; paint onsite for a few hours then drive home.
These pieces presented here are the results of my adventures and memories of the landscapes of Southern Ontario. I'm confident you'll find your own memories of day trips, picnics and local hikes tucked into these canvases.
Occasionally a call for art will align with my own art practice. In this instance the Homer Watson House & Gallery in my hometown of Kitchener was hosting an exhibition of work featuring the many views of the Grand River. This river featured prominently in my youth and I was excited to have this opportunity.
I created sketches at 3 locations along the Grand, in Paris and Caledonia. The scene I selected from my outdoor studies and sketches was the view from the dam in Paris. This was early September and the colour was just beginning to glow on the trees. I echoed the colour of the leaves in the bridge making it part of nature.
This stunning early autumn palette will light up any room. A treasured piece for the fisherman, canoeist and nature lover.
The on-site sketches are also available in the Drawings and Sketches section of this site.
This original painting is 16” high and 40” wide with a depth of 1.5”. The artwork wraps halfway around the edges which are then finished in black. This provides a clean, finished, high-end look and makes the work ready to display without the need for a frame.
