In February 2025 I went on an adventure to Costa Rica. I say adventure because before then, I had never been anywhere outside of North America, and it had been several decades since I last boarded a plane. In addition, my destination Costa Rica is a strictly Spanish speaking country. I didn't know any Spanish before my trip.

That unassuming trip became the catalyst for my new work. My experiences in Costa Rica changed how I see the world. It affected the colours I use in my work and the feeling of the work.

The new palette is bold and bright based on the basic primaries of red, yellow and blue. The new approach is more ethereal, encompassing emotion, experience and memory into each composition providing you, the viewer a unique perspective and experience.

I expect this new approach to evolve over time. Refine. Morph. Grow.

I invite you to join me on this creative journey and explore the many moods and visions that I share here with you.

Superior Sings celebrates a hidden pebble beach beside the TransCanada Highway and Lake Superior. The beach hosts many types of rocks and formations of rocks providing many great views for inspiration. These new works explore memory and memories. How they overlap, fade and change. Most of the background is kept soft, edges barely apparent as they flow into each other. The foreground features details of the rocks that sit heavy on the beach.

This wonderful piece will light up any room and provide countless hours of happy contemplation.

This original water-based ink painting 24” high and 36” wide with a depth of 1.5”. The artwork wraps halfway around the edges which are then finished in black. This provides a clean, finished, high-end look and makes the work ready to display without the need for a frame.

The third piece of the Costa Rica Collection is Tortuga. Created with oil sticks, water-based inks and oil paints this piece is a turning point in my creative process and approach to painting. Here I use three separate views of the rock formations found in and around the Tortuga island area of Costa Rica on the pacific coast. The background view is soft and highly translucent. The middle ground scene is slightly less translucent and features the same rocks from a different angle. The foreground focuses on the pinnacle rock, shaped like an arrow head or a turtle head. The foreground holds more detail and solidity. Like memories, some fade and soften while others remain crisp and firm.

This beautiful semi-abstract landscape will grace any wall and room with joyful colour and expressive forms.

This original painting is 16” high and 40” wide with a depth of 1.5”. The artwork wraps halfway around the edges which are then finished in black. This provides a clean, finished, high-end look and makes the work ready to display without the need for a frame.

Forest Lovers

Painted on site - en plein air - at the Elora plein air festival, this small painting depicts the usually shaped trees I found in the forest along the Elora gorge. The two in the background look like they are in a lovers embrace while the foreground tree observes the scene. This trail is often used by wedding parties for photos and just to relax from the stress of the day. I felt it was very fitting to find a scene that reflects the use of the trail as this one does.

This original water-based ink painting 12” high and 9” wide with a depth of 1.5”. The artwork wraps halfway around the edges which are then finished in black. This provides a clean, finished, high-end look and makes the work ready to display without the need for a frame.
