Artists have been practicing the art of painting and drawing outdoors since the time of Monet. He was a pioneering impressionist who influenced art styles and practices by painting outdoors en plein air. His goal was to capture those precious fleeting moments of light and interpret the effects of natural light on the natural environment.

I like to call it part sport part art. The main reason is that you often require specialized equipment that helps you to effectively manage the challenges of being outdoors in ever-changing weather.

In this decade, that challenge is growing as our weather patterns have become more unpredictable. But don't fret!! I have lots of tips and ideas to help my students experience the best of plein air art making in todays challenging environment.

Beginners Welcome!! All Levels & all mediums Welcome!

Want to try a class but don’t want to purchase an easel? I have a few easels available for $5 rental.

You can also follow me on Instagram or subscribe to the semi monthly newsletter. I look forward to seeing you outdoors this year creating beautiful art with me!

The Happy Students of Cheryl-Ann Hills

  • "I think that one's art is a growth inside one. I do not think one can explain growth. It is silent and subtle. One does not keep digging up a plant to see how it grows."

    Emily Carr
